Accessibility Statement

Ellen’s Realty wants everyone looking for a home on Guam to be able to use this website, including people who browse with a screen reader, a keyboard alone, magnification, or voice control. Housing is not optional, and neither is being able to look for it.

What we are aiming for

We are working towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard the U.S. Department of Justice looks to under the Americans with Disabilities Act. We have not yet completed an independent audit against it, so we are not claiming full conformance. We would rather tell you where we are than overstate it.

What we have done

  • Every page is rendered on the server, so listings, prices and links are available without waiting for scripts and are readable by assistive technology.
  • Pages use real headings, landmarks and lists in a logical order, so a screen reader can navigate by structure.
  • Forms use properly associated labels, and errors are announced rather than shown only by colour.
  • Interactive controls can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and keyboard focus is visible.
  • Text colours are chosen for contrast against their backgrounds.
  • Page text resizes without breaking the layout, and the site works down to small screens.
  • Photographs and icons we control carry text alternatives.

Where we fall short

Being specific is more useful to you than a general apology:

  • Listing photographs arrive without descriptions. Photographs come from the Guam Multiple Listing Service and the listing brokerage, and the feed does not include meaningful alternative text. We generate a description from the property address where we can, but it does not describe what the photograph shows.
  • Embedded video tours and 3D walkthroughs are third-party. YouTube, Vimeo, Matterport and similar players are supplied by the listing brokerage and are outside our control. Their accessibility is theirs, not ours. Where a walkthrough is the only way to see a property, ask us and we will describe it to you or arrange a viewing.
  • The map search is inherently visual. Drawing a search area on a map is difficult without a pointing device. Every property reachable on the map is also reachable through the ordinary text search filters, and we treat that as the accessible path rather than a lesser one.
  • Documents supplied by third parties — floor plans, disclosures, plats — may be scanned images without a text layer.
  • Some older pages carried over from our previous website have not yet been reviewed.

If something does not work for you

Tell us, and we will help you directly while we fix it. There is nothing on this site you cannot also get from a person.

Please tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology you use, if any. We will acknowledge within 3 business days and tell you how and when we intend to fix it. If you need listing details, a property description, a document read to you, or help arranging a viewing, we will do that straight away rather than making you wait for a fix.
